The Paramount Theatre was built in 1913. It opened on January 14, 1914 and was called The Playhouse. Designed by Leon H. Lempert, the Classical style exterior of the theatre reflected the "City Beautiful" - a movement of the time, while the interior took on the look of a Victorian opera house.

The Paramount, restored in 1999 after nearly 20 years of neglect, reopened March 11, 2000. The theatre is located on Center Street in downtown Rutland, Vermont. The loading dock/backstage access is off Wales Street. The loading dock area can accommodate two 53' trucks or one bus and one truck. There is a production office available to touring crews with internet access and phone service. The House position of soft goods and electrics can be reconfigured with advance notice, if theatre schedule and crew time allows. The Paramount Theatre is a non-union venue.

The use of pyrotechnic devices or fireworks in a public building is strictly prohibited, absent the express written consent of the Commissioner of Labor and Industry and the chief of the local fire department.
